How to read a profile
Think of a profile as the back of a record sleeve: it tells you what the people who made it want you to expect. Each page on this shelf starts with the listed age and job, then the personality line and hobbies, then the series she appears in, if any. Personality is the line I trust most, because it is the one that shapes how a chat is likely to go. Hobbies come next, since they often reveal more than the job does. Where a profile says very little, I say so instead of filling in the gaps.
What a listed age and job tell you, and what they do not
A listed age tells you where the character was placed in life and what kind of story she has behind her. Every one of them is an adult, and I give the age as listed without adjusting it. A job gives you her setting and her daily habits, and frequently a good deal of her humour. Neither one tells you whether you will get along, and neither tells you what she will say on a given night. For that, I read the personality line and tell you my guess, and it stays a guess.

Where to go when a list is not enough
A list of sixteen names is fine for browsing and poor for deciding. If you know the mood you are after and not the name, who suits you starts from what you want out of a conversation. When you are down to two, the head to head pages put a pair side by side and I pick a side. To see them on screen first, the series list shows who appears where, though many people here are chat only. New to all of this? Chat basics is the short version, and it saves confusion.
