What Candy Shorts are and how they actually work

The format in brief

Think of a Short as a single album rather than a whole catalogue. Each series tells one story across a handful of episodes. Almost every title on this shelf has 5, and The Man Next Door Knows has 9. I can only speak to first episodes for running time, and they are brief: the shortest here is 57 seconds and the longest is 103. Premises range from family secrets to vampires, a memory smuggler and a court ruled by a dragon queen, so do not judge the whole format by one title. The series playlist shows the range at a glance.

Free episodes, then tokens

Each of the eleven series I have notes on gives you its first 2 episodes for free. Beyond that you pay per episode in tokens. Most list at 12 tokens an episode, while two list at 30, which is how you end up with totals of 36, 84 or 90 tokens to finish. These are list prices and promotions can lower them, so check the current price rather than trusting a number on a page, including this one. Where the people come in

This is the part that makes Shorts more than a video shelf: some of the characters are also people you can chat with on Candy.ai. It is uneven, though. Some series name a person who has a page here, such as Rachel Greer, 34, on Honey Trap in Silk. Others bill a name with no page yet, and some list no cast at all. So my habit is to watch the free pair first, then look up the name, and only then decide if there is someone to talk to.

How I would start

Pick by premise, not by title, because some titles shout far louder than their stories do. If you want a puzzle, try NightWire. If you want something quiet and human, try The Man Next Door Knows. Keep your tokens until a free pair has actually earned them, and remember that a cheap opener still costs you nothing to abandon. That is all the plan you need.
